Opinion is divided over just what Steinacleit is: a cairn? a stone circle? a domestic settlement? Its caretaker, Historic Scotland, calls it a cairn, but others disagree.
There is a circular structure of roughly 50 feet in diameter at the site. Historic Scotland claims the site's date as between 1800 and 1500 B.C.
