 The Nether Largie Cairn South is the oldest monument of the Linear Cemetery, a Neolithic chambered cairn of the Clyde type, probably dating from approximately 3,000 B.C.
The cairn was originally around 130 feet in diameter and about 13 feet high, although stone robbing has reduced its size.
The internal chamber, divided by stone slabs into stalls, is almost 20 feet long entered from the north. Although now exposed, the chamber would have been encased within the cairn.
At the edge of the cairn are two stone cists, probably from the Early Bronze Age, in which Neolithic pottery and arrowheads were found.

The Nether Largie Cairn South is one of a large complex of tombs, standing stones, and carved stones that make up what is called the Linear Cemetary. All are located off the A 816 in the valley south of Kilmartin, Argyll and Bute, Scotland.
