 The impressive ritual landscape at Merrivale contains almost the whole variety of ceremonial monument types that exist on Dartmoor. Specifically, Merrivale consists of the remains of a Bronze Age settlement, side by side with several sacred sites, including two double stone rows, two single stone rows, a stone circle, a standing stone, several round cairns, at least one ring cairn, and several burial cists, all probably constructed over a long period between ca.2500 B.C. and 1000 B.C. The settlement occupies both sides of the modern road and contains the remains of 37 stone-built round houses or hut circles.
