Machrie Moor is the site of a prehistoric ritual landscape dating from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages and includes several stone circles and chambered cairns.

Machrie Moor 4 consists of four granite blocks about three feet high, not quite equidistant from each other so that they form an ellipse. It is only 21 feet in diameter. An excavation in 1861 found a cist in the center.
