Carlungie Souterrain is unusually long (around 150 feet) and complex, with side passages. Excavation in the 1950s revealed a number of small, round stone buildings at ground level, enclosed within the curve of the earth-house passage. There are four entrances and a narrow passage that joins the main underground gallery.
