The Balvraid Chambered Cairn is estimated at 45 feet long and in parts six feet high. Near its east end, a few feet behind the center of the very slightly curved facade, a large oval capstone lies tilted over the exposed uprights of a rectangular chamber.

The Balvraid Chambered Cairn is located off a minor road southeast of the village of Glenelg, which can be reached from the Isle of Skye in the west by the Kylerhea ferry or from the east on the "Old Military Road" off the A87 at Shiel Bridge, in Highland, Scotland. It is is situated 200 yards west of Balvraid farm close to the north (left) side of the road.
