 The Ratoo Monastery was founded by Bishop Lughach, one of the first Christian evangelists in Kerry, in the 6th Century.
The attraction at Ratoo is its almost perfect 90 foot round tower built in 1100 A.D.. The unique doorway is almost 10 feet above ground level and faces to the southeast. There is a single window above the doorway, while there are four windows in the bell-storey at the top of the tower. It is said that there is a sheela-na-gig carved on the north window, facing into the inside of the tower.
